I was late to the avocado bandwagon. Don’t get me wrong, I loved guacamole, but I was a late bloomer when it came to eating avocados in any other form. My recent favorite is a simply delicious recipe from Alison Roman’s Dining In.


Fun Food Facts:

According to Joel S. Denker’s The Carrot Purple and Other Curious Stories Of The Foods We Eat, old English sailors ate avocados which they called “the midshipman’s butter.”

An avocado, as we know it, grows as the fruit of its tree, essentially a berry with a large seed.

The avocado is related to cinnamon, bay leaves and sassafras, which are all a part of the laurel family.

Archaeologists believe the avocado plant is between 8,000 and 15,000 years old, originally from in the area now known as Peru.

The following FFF is rated PG-13 — The Aztecs called the avocado tree ahuacacuahatl, or the testicle tree, and the avocado was thought to be an aphrodisiac.
